About Pauline & Crochet Design
Pauline Turner reluctantly added crochet to her other craft skills during 1973. In her capacity as a full time lecturer of Crafts and Allied Subjects, with Lancaster & Morecambe College of Further Education, she was informed she was to teach crochet after the summer break. Never having crocheted before, Pauline did not enjoy crochet as at that time it followed the principles of knitting.
Suddenly she realised the incredible freedom and potential of crochet for fashion, household items and art forms. Pauline's innovatory ideas were shown on TV, and yarn spinners were requesting fashion designs and information for publication from her. In 1978 the first of five crochet summer schools were held. LINK TO MAY EVENT During this period she became the first editor of Slip Knot - the Knitting and Crochet Guild's magazine.
In 1983 Pauline started her own business - Crochet Design. An education and mail order establishment holding workshops, courses and providing literature for all interested. She was sought after as a Consultant and Lecturer, both in the UK and overseas. Crochet Design was the first of its kind and still holds the unique position of being the only business to run an elite distance learning course in crochet.
Changes are taking place with Crochet Design during the latter part of 2006, and through 2007. From 1st July 2006, the company ‘Thread of Life’ will be administrating purchases by mail order instead of Crochet Design. Crochet Design will only supply Pauline Turner publications and educational material to her students and during her lecture tours. Note also that the International Diploma in Crochet is being upgraded and revised with appropriate increases in fees as of 1st September 2006.
