Crochet Awards 2006 Schedule

The Crochet Awards form part of the 'Xpect the Unexpected' event being held in Morecambe in early May 2006. You may enter as many award categories as you wish, but you may only enter one item in each category.

Entry fees are £10.00 per item, cheques made payable to Crochet Design. If you need to use a credit card (Visa or Mastercard) contact Crochet Design direct. Click here to contact Crochet Design.

Entry fees should be sent with the completed form and completed entries to Helen Jordan, 34 Shann Avenue, KEIGHLEY, West Yorkshire, BD21 2TL and must arrive NO LATER than 12 April '06.

Award 1 – THE MIRROR OF SUCCESS ‘Brief but Beautiful’
Sponsored by Pauline Turner

Create a fashion evening top using any yarn, in any style for any age. The winner will be awarded a cash prize of £200 and a mirror trophy to keep. The runner up will receive a cash prize of £75.

Award 2 – ‘3-D Thrills’
Sponsored by Helen Jordan

Create a three-dimensional piece exploring the concept of ‘Abundance’. The completed item must be able to fit inside a 30 cm (12 in) cube. It may be mixed media, but there must be a minimum 50% crochet. The winner will be awarded a cash prize of £50, a gift to keep and a trophy to be held for twelve months. The runner up will receive a cash prize of £25 and a gift to keep.

Award 3 –‘Part 1 Diploma Students Only’
Sponsored by Barbara Miles

Any item may be produced by a Part 1 Diploma in Crochet student. The award is intended to give you the chance to see just how good you can be and possibly to help you to ‘stretch your crochet wings’. The winner will be awarded a prize to keep and a trophy to be held for a year. The runner up will receive a prize to keep.

Award 4 – ‘Recycle!’

Create an item using recycled materials. The winner will be awarded a cheque for £50. The runner up will receive a valued old book.

Award 5 – ‘A Little Freeform’
Sponsored by UK Freeform Round Robin Group

Create an item using freeform crochet techniques. The winner will be awarded a gift of yarn. The runner up will receive a smaller gift of yarn.

Award 6 – ‘Nature Story’
Sponsored by Mrs Skillings and Crochet Design

Create a crochet picture, card or calendar (no glass allowed) using only 5s or thinner thread. Maximum 30 cm in any direction. The winner will be awarded £20. The runner up will receive a small parcel of coloured cotton

Award 7 – ‘Peace’
Sponsored by International School of Awareness

Create an art-to wear or wearable art accessory symbolising PEACE. The winner will be awarded a gift of yarn. The runner up will receive a smaller gift of yarn.

Award 8 – ‘Toy Time’
Sponsored by Hallmarks

Create a toy or game suitable for children up to the age of seven. The item should not bigger than 30cm in any direction. The winner will be awarded a CD voucher. The runner up will receive a gift of yarn.

Award 9 – ‘Versatility’
Sponsored by Crochet Design

Create a glamorous wearable item that can be worn or used in more than one way. The winner will be awarded a gift of fashion yarns. The runner up will receive a gift of yarn.
