WELCOME TO MY WORLD OF CROCHET

MOVE WITH THE TIMES WITH CROCHET DESIGN!
“The Highway Code of Crochet”
Being produced, right now, “the Highway Code of Crochet” - a series of DVDs covering many aspects of crochet both functional and creative.  These professionally produced DVDs are definitely value for money as they contain an enormous amount of information.   The close-up shots of Pauline’s hands taken during filming are as close as if they are your own, making it possible for learning to be quick, fun and fulfilling.  Pauline’s accompanying comments are clear, inspirational and liberating.

‘Tunisian Crochet’ - the first in the series, takes you through and beyond the basics, covering colour, texture, working in the round, professional finishes, plus inspiring suggestions of working Tunisian crochet to make fascinating creations.

‘Looping’ - the second in the series, is a double DVD, one on broomstick and one on hairpin.  Each contains the basics as well as showing many ways to use these two ‘looping’ techniques in an adventurous and exciting way.   After the basics have been mastered, how to combine broomstick with other forms of crochet in a professional way is contained on one DVD, whilst the other shows how to work hairpin crochet with many variations, including different central spines, joins, edgings etc.

Westhope Craft College  - ‘Freeform Crochet plus Surface Crochet Embellishment’
A wonderful course in beautiful surroundings on 6th – 9th July (talk, Tuesday evening, finishing mid-day Friday):   Tutor - Pauline Turner.  A fun filled and exciting programme of unexpected techniques and explorations.

For those who do not wish to use the crochet hook in a conventional and traditional way, try ‘Freeform crochet’ which enables you to create truly unique pieces  in an unrestricted way.  However, if that may seem a little daunting ‘Surface crochet’ is a kind of free form crochet worked onto a base.  Having a base shape to work to, still gives plenty of scope for exploration and breaking the bounds of traditional crochet, but allows a feeling of safety because the final shape, at least, gives the illusion of you having a safety net.   For full details contact Westhope Craft College: www.westhope.org.uk

Morecambe – the home of the International Diploma in Crochet
Attend a one day workshop on what you next need to understand and master in crochet.  These workshops are limited to small numbers, to allow for personalised tuition.  Turn to Crochet Events for the June and July dates.

Our planet is constantly changing; something mirrored spectacularly in my own, enthralling world of Crochet! Here, over recent years, the veils have been raised miraculously - on what was formerly perceived as a limited (some might say pointless) pastime. It is something which, although once associated with lace and old ladies! – has been transformed to reveal an art form of incredible versatility and all consuming fascination.

I started the learning based, Crochet Design, in 1983 and via my own innovative ideas, created a distance learning course which became the International Diploma in Crochet. The aim was to provide ‘you’ with a comprehensive learning experience and the very real ability to obtain maximum satisfaction from this captivating hobby; or, even to enable you to take things a stage further and embark on a Crochet related career! *The opportunities to satisfy creative crochet related desires are immense and limited only by your own talent and imagination. For instance:

Free form crochet enables you to create truly unique pieces - unfettered by restricting patterns.
Extend this concept to the use of mixed media.
*NB: The ‘crochet crafter’ creates their own new world, one where all manner of items can be enhanced using the art of crochet.

My own fascination with crochet began in 1973 when I reluctantly had to teach it as a lecturer in Crafts and Allied Subjects at Morecambe College of Further Education. Having been bitten by the bug, my services and talents became in demand as:

Editor of Slip Knot, the Knitting and Crochet Guild magazine.
Consultant and lecturer
Author
*I have also promoted crochet on both radio and television: in the UK and abroad.

Crochet Design, though, is educationally driven and gives me most satisfaction. The first ever elite distance learning school, my International Diploma in Crochet Design continue to be recognised across the globe as being the most sought after and respected qualification in this field.

It is my hope that, via this website, you will allow me to introduce you to the fascinations of crochet design or that, as an existing convert, you might be encouraged to further your current interest and talent in order to gain a qualification.
